These beans are dandy! I only used one/4 cup each of brown sugar and ketchup, so there was no problem with it beingness "runny". I also cooked four slices of bacon and then chopped it and mixed it in. That mode I could use more salary, but keep the grease out.
08/29/2008
Jackie'due south clarification of her recipe is perfect: "A quick and easy way to dress up ordinary pork and beans. The measurements are estimates, only really you can adjust anything to personal gustation." I couldn't have said it improve myself. Other than reducing the brown sugar past half, I stuck to the recipe. Every bit hubby said, "they were wonderful." And I say this was a big payoff for very petty try using ingredients right off the pantry shelf!
06/02/2012
Will def make over again BUT was mushy.... Too much liquid between the juice from the beans and ketchup! I think I read a review that said they made twice - 2nd time draining the liquid from the beans 1st. Plans to practise that adjacent fourth dimension! Overall delish!
04/28/2003
I doubled recipe, but only used 1/2 of the sugar. I used old style mustard instead of regular, 5 slices of bacon and broiled them in the oven for about iii hours. They thickened up very nicely. Great beans. Will make over again & again
01/11/2003
At first I wasn't sure if this would exist adept because the ingredients seemed strange. I threw all of it in the crockpot on low for two hours, and WOW! It was sure yummy. I would advise having information technology with some BBQ chicken or something similar that. YUM YUM!!
01/22/2001
Very good and easy to brand. I used less saccharide than the recipe called for with adept results.
07/28/2011
Wow! So like shooting fish in a barrel and even so so proficient! This reminds me of the manner my Grandma Helen used to make baked beans for every summer picnic. Other than cutting back on the ketchup and adding a bit of molasses and liquid smoke I wouldn't change a thing. This definitely is a bang-up way to take a regular 'ol can of baked beans and turn them into something special without a lot of effort!
06/01/2012
We made this recipe for an function opening and it was awesome! Exist careful of what bacon you use to insure its not as well smokey
09/09/2002
I have always made my beans in a crock pot and cook them all twenty-four hours. I made these concluding night and while I said they were pretty skillful, my husband said he thought they were the best beans he has always had. I used powdered mustard and added some arrowroot to thicken them a flake. I had no option simply to write this when he said today, let'southward make these again this evening. Looks like a winner, thanks Jackie.
10/06/2011
These are wonderful. My first time making baked beans and I was very pleased. I think it is important if yous are going to rate a recipe yous should brand information technology as written. If you get well-nigh making a lot of changes and and then requite it a bad rating, that is terribly misleading to the organization. Off my lather box! The simply place I deviated is rather than lay ii slices of bacon on pinnacle, I chopped up the two slices and sprinkled them on top. This fabricated it much easier to serve and the bacon was nice and just crispy. The only change I think I might make next time is to bleed ane of the cans of beans. Very very expert and very easy. ***EDIT*** I made this for a second time, drained one can of beans and it was just a chip better!! A++++
09/06/2002
Very Skilful!! I recollect I will cut downwardly on the brown sugar next time because it was a little too sweetness for our taste. I used Bush's beans and they are already sweet. Also I crumbled cooked bacon in with the beans to cut down on the grease.
04/20/2003
Took this to a brunch and actually liked it. I put in 1T of worcestershire instead (I think information technology brings out a smokey flavour) Was very easy and yummy, thanks, Jackie. ** Made this for a 2nd time. This fourth dimension I double information technology and added pork saugage similar some of the other recipes. YUMMY! It was a huge striking at the bar b que!**
02/08/2011
Bully recipe! I used Bush-league's All-time Baked Beans so I knew that information technology would be even ameliorate when "doctored" with this recipe. I basically used this every bit a guideline since I was making such a large batch of baked beans. I tripled this recipe by using 3 (28 ounce) cans of beans. I used less brown sugar than chosen for and extra mustard, Worcesterchire and vinegar since nosotros like things more than savory than sweet. This was so yummy and thickened upward beautifully. I will definitely make this tasty and easy recipe again for a BBQ!
04/19/2003
I am not a big fan of broiled beans, and these are wonderful! Even so, they are a bit sweet, so if you don't like sweet baked beans I would reduce the sugar past 1/4 cup.
07/17/2002
These were very easy, I put them in the crockpot for a few hours. They were a little runnier than I'm used to, just they were proficient. Thanks Jackie-
02/14/2005
This is corking as it, but it needs i additional ingredient for perfection. I reduce the brown sugar to 1/iv cup and add i/4 cup molasses along with it. The molasses actually contributes to the flavor!
01/24/2010
Piece of cake to brand. Great for Memorial or July 4th picnics every year. Doubling the recipe will fill a 9x13 pan nicely.
09/15/2010
These were some of the all-time baked beans I have always had. Instead of putting the 2 pieces of bacon on top, I fried about 6 slices and mixed the cooked bacon in with everything else. I didn't have whatever reddish vino vinegar so I used regular white vinegar and it withal tasted great! Definitely a keeper!
12/25/2010
I made this in a crock pot gear up on med heat for iv-5 hours. Doubled the ingredients and it turned out bang-up! The only thing I didn't add was the red wine vinegar but it still tasted very proficient, more on the sugariness side. I used the original Bush-league's baked beans (with the tin juices) and pretty much eyeballed the measurements with no worries. I got a lot of compliments! Served information technology with a ham for Christmas. Very skillful and super like shooting fish in a barrel to make!
03/ten/2003
I didn't have fourth dimension for this dish to cook for an hour, so I sauteed the bacon in a pan, and then sauteed the onions in the grease. Crumbled the bacon into a pan, poured in the onions (grease and all), stirred in all the rest of the ingredients, and microwaved on high for 15 minutes. Information technology was still SOOOOO good. Cheers!
05/04/2009
I doubled the recipe, but cutting the chocolate-brown sugar in half as others suggested. Cooked in the crock pot for a couple of hours without the lid then it wouldn't be and then watery. I took them to a party so the crock pot was nice to keep them warm and easy to seve from. Everybody said they were swell.
10/23/2010
Merely simply wonderful. I cooked it for a cake party and information technology dissappeared pretty quickly. It got rave reviews from my friends.
02/06/2011
The just thing I changed was to not add the vinegar. Keen beans! Thanks for sharing.
06/10/2007
Fantastic recipe!!!! Tastes but like my Moms! She could never give me the ingredient amounts, because she just put the ingredients in by nature. The only affair in the ingredients that is different is the red wine vinegar, but I experience that it gives it a twist in taste, merely not plenty to say "what is that", meaning information technology doesn't overpower at all. Some of the reviews referenced a sweet, which I didn't become. Perhaps it is the brand of beans and ketchup used. I used Van Camps beans, tuckered and Heinz ketchup. The but thing unlike that I did, was ready information technology earlier in the day for a dinner we were going to that evening. I set it in the fridge, uncooked. An hour or and so earlier leaving I put the dish into the common cold oven, so turned on the heat to 350F. I set my timer for 35 minutes, then punched upward the temperature to 375F for 30 minutes. It sizzled the salary nearly searing the pinnacle portion of the beans, sealing in the juices. It was a dinner party of five … we served ribs, mac/cheese, bread, roasted ears of corn, and deviled eggs …. In that location was only a spoon or 2 left of the beans …. Everyone commented on them …. I just told them they were "mommas' beans", which is the finest recommendation I can give them …… Thanks!
02/05/2011
Tasted just like my mom's. She's been gone for 9 years and never wrote down her recipes so I'one thousand glad I establish this one! She made the All-time baked beans and now I can as well! THANKS a BUNCH!!
07/07/2011
Delicious! Went well with the 4th of July carte. Used vegtarian beans as I prefer to add my own meat. Cooked the bacon in a skillet until almost done before chopping and adding to the bean mixture to bake.
07/03/2002
Very proficient season! Made recipe a 24-hour interval alee and so flavors could ripen. Served in a crockpot on depression. Also cooked it a footling longer to thicken sauce. Succulent! Lots of compliments.
08/23/2010
Simply similar my Mom used to make!
12/28/2009
Very good recipe. I did chop up the bacon into bite-sized pieces before adding to the elevation of the beans before baking. Helped them to become squeamish and crispy.
06/03/2003
After reading all of the reviews I thought I would give this a try fifty-fifty though the ingredients semed pretty ordinary. WOW - was I wrong !!!! This recipe was outstanding !!!! Next time I will add more than bacon only because my husband loves it but otherwise I wouldn't change a affair ( he doesn't similar sweet things so I also decreased the sugar to 1/4 of a cup but I myself would similar it with more than ) Thank you and so much for a existent winner - I won't carp looking for "the" baked beab recipe considering this is information technology !!!!!!
03/12/2011
This recipe is groovy and is very easy to make! Made no changes. Everyone loved it!
12/22/2002
This was then easy. I fabricated it for an office political party in my crock pot and information technology was a big striking.
xi/12/2002
I tweaked this just a niggling.....cooked 8 slices of bacon till crisp, removed, and sauteed onion and iii-4 cloves of garlic in the bacon grease..finally, I cooked about a pound of hamburger and added all of the in a higher place to the original recipe, and placed in a crockpot for 3-vi hours on depression...great taste.
01/19/2003
I tripled this recipe for a large family gathering, and all I brought home was an empty dish. Anybody loved them. They had just the right amount of every flavor. To keep them from being and then greasy from the salary, I soaked up some of the grease with a paper towel every bit soon equally they were done. Worked wonderfully. Cheers Jackie...succulent.
02/21/2012
My Mom makes the best broiled beans ever. But they take to soak overnight, and require several hours of baking in the oven. I just don't have time. Thought this recipe had similar ingredients to hers without the time investment. I was NOT disappointed. This recipe was AWESOME. My mom used molasses, and so I did utilize some other reviewers annotate and reduce the chocolate-brown sugar and add some molasses. I also swapped the ketchup for chili sauce. These were absolutely delicious. My Mom even asked for the recipe! Served it with a homemade mac due north cheese and a spinach salad with asiago cheese, pine nuts and mushrooms. Was the all-time "comfort repast" I have e'er fabricated (if I do say so myself!). Mom, Dad, husband and son agreed. Give thanks you!
06/20/2010
HOLY SMOKES!!!!!! These are awesome! i did follow i readers advice and loving cup the ketchup and sugar downwardly to i/4 loving cup...just i call up no matter what they would accept been STELLAR! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THEM! The simplicity mixed with the aroma going on my kitchen is heaven! thanks for the recipe!
07/23/2011
This is my mom's recipe that she did from her caput, only difference she used ground mustard, dearest it with the ground vs. the regular mustard. Absolutely the best.
03/12/2006
THE BEST baked beans! I have used this recipe for several years and always go compliments on it. Don't modify a thing - it'south perfect as is. I microwave mine for well-nigh 15 minutes instead of baking and it comes out perfect. Thanks for an outstanding recipe! :o)
07/ten/2010
I actually liked this recipe for broiled beans. It is simple to put together and the flavor is very rich. I put all the ingredients in my tiresome cooker on low for near 5-6 hours. This made the flavors actually blend to give it the rich taste. Succulent. good recipe thanks.
12/09/2010
I honey these but the 2nd time I made them, I put less sugar. It was a picayune too sweet the first time.
10/16/2006
Thanks Jackie for a wonderful Baked Edible bean recipe. I wanted to brand baked beans to become with dinner and I usually use my sisters recipe that is smashing and I couldn't find. I found yours and it is and then much like my sisters. The only change that I fabricated was that I saute the onion in the bacon grease and fried the bacon half way before placing on top of beans. Will brand this again.
03/01/2003
Wonderful!! I'm not sure you lot Accept to have the sweet "baked beans" in a tin (just in case you only have the regular p&b's on hand). Subsequently all, the clarification does say you lot can wake upward "pork and beans". Anyhow, this recipe is awesome. I LOVE the texture of the cooked bacon pieces. I couldn't believe the compliments I got. After all, broiled beans are just baked beans...until these!
04/26/2003
These are great beans! Next fourth dimension I will add together a little less sugar though. I like sweetness baked beans, simply these were a piddling as well sweet for me. Terrific season other than that. Will modify and brand it again.
06/xv/2013
I have been using this as my go-to recipe for baked beans and always gotten rave reviews. I am not certain why people remember they are "runny"...at that place is no expectation on beans with that regard just give them a taste and you lot will see. I practise use apple cider vinegar over cerise vino vinegar as I usually accept that on mitt and I don't unremarkably demand to add together much table salt and pepper since I employ pepper bacon and chop information technology upwards right into the beans. YUMMY!
07/23/2011
I added i lb of Jimmy Dean sausage and ane can of apple pie filling and it really licked it up!!
04/01/2005
These were very good, simply a little also sweet for me. I did add some garlic and diced the bacon.
02/21/2003
Very tasty! Will be maing again and once more!
09/28/2011
Adept recipe although I add cider vinegar instead of red wine. Anyone out there that has their mother'southward or grandmothers old edible bean pot...Apply IT, I don't understand why just I swear it's MAGIC! I like this recipe merely I recall I could most put anything in my mothers bean pot and they would be excellent!
05/21/2010
Good recipe. I potential addition that would ever be plant in TX/OK barbecue: put in a bit of liquid smoke, to taste. I prefer the mesquite, though you might also try hickory. It gives a unique piquancy and aroma that is very pleasing.
06/05/2010
pretty good. not great. would make over again. i recall they are merely missing a hint of something. tin can't figure out what.
01/01/2011
This dish is delicious!
04/14/2011
When making baked beans from scratch, I love Alton Dark-brown's In one case and Forever Beans. But this recipe is the all-time I have found for turning regular canned beans into something amazing. I double the recipe, utilize Hormel Blackness Label Maple Bacon on top and cook them as along as I can - at least two hours - and cease up with beans that are simply wonderful. Dandy for potlucks and even better warmed upwards over the next couple of days. Heck, give me a side of Grandmother'due south Buttermilk Cornbread from this site and I've got dinner.
08/08/2011
Pretty proficient merely notwithstanding tastes like a can of pork & beans with stuff in information technology to me. Maybe if it were thicker with more than meat in information technology that would practise it for me. Less saccharide works out well, I used 1/iii C. and got good results with sugariness & flavor. Adjacent time I volition attempt a small amount of molassis, 1/2 lb. of browned hamburger and melt a little longer to thicken it up a bit and give it that hearty, "stick to your ribs" quality that my pre-formulation of baked beans ought to accept.
11/15/2010
I'one thousand pitiful, we did non enjoy these. We establish them bland. Thanks anyway.
02/06/2011
Great recipe!!! Didn't change a think. Simple and tasty!!
06/eleven/2009
Absolutely stupendous! (that is a word, yes?). Do NOT cut back on the brown sugar, every bit that is the primal to simply how delicious this recipe is. Baked beans never tasted so expert. Don't exist afraid to broil a fleck longer than chosen for, as the bacon gets squeamish and crispy and the beans then actually bail with the other great ingredients. Get frisky and add together ane/iv cup bourbon and just await out! I keep receiving rave reviews for something seemingly mundane as baked beans....dearest 'em!
12/28/2011
I used vegetarian broiled beans and left out the bacon. It was SO good - anybody loved it and at that place were no leftovers. Also, I didn't have reddish vino vinegar on paw then I used apple cider vinegar instead. Yum!
07/06/2003
This was a good recipe, but non peachy. That could be my error because I modified it slightly by using a 28 oz. can instead of 2 15 oz. cans. It was slightly runny. I cut back the sugar by i/ii but probably should accept also cut back a lilliputian on the other seasonings. The mustard seemed quite strong. I call up I would fry the bacon beginning, the next time, so add it to the top. It never got crunchy like I was expecting. I have a similar recipe which as well adds pork sausage and chopped green peppers, which is delicious. I'll probably stick with that recipe.
03/31/2010
all-time e'er, i chopped up the bacon and onions and then sauted together then added to the beans forth with salary fat/grease. I will always use this recipe
01/21/2003
I made these today and they were really good. I didn't use as much chocolate-brown sugar as chosen for. I used Bush's broiled beans which already has brown sugar. I will make these once again for certain.
10/31/2009
Very good! After reading other reviews, I halved the amount of sugar and ketchup to one/four cup each. I also crisped and crumbled 4 strips of salary instead of two. I threw it all in the crockpot for around two hours or and so and it was delicious. Not equally adept equally my aunt'due south (who has some super hole-and-corner recipe she refuses to spill!), simply definitely close and definitely something I'll make again. Information technology made a great side dish for our BBQ craven dinner. We all had seconds!
06/twenty/2012
These beans were marvelous, and I'g not even a fan of beans at all! Followed the directions exactly excepted doubled it. Yum yum yum! My family ate them up!
12/03/2011
this is as close to my pace moms recipe i can find. lost hers. i saw someone mentioning liquid fume and i knew i was close.now i just demand to effigy out ammounts. cheers! if i can get close its a GREAT baked edible bean recipe
10/03/2011
Yumm! Very practiced proportions. Equally others suggested I fried the bacon first, and then sauted the onions in part of the remaining bacon grease. I like greenish bell peppers in broiled beans, and then I sauteed about 3/4 of a cup chopped peppers along with the onions.
08/27/2011
this was perfect for my catering gig today! information technology tasted and smelled admittedly amazing! perfect recipe (i made it for 15). volition use always! great task!
01/26/2006
I have never really cared for baked beans, but LOVE this recipe. I accept been making information technology for several years now, and ever get rave reviews when I serve them.
06/28/2010
These were very good but not a huge wow cistron.
09/01/2011
I have made these many, many times and everyone LOVES them! The only thing I take learned over time is to saute the onion first in a trivial (tbls. or and so) olive oil. I didn't like the texture of difficult onion in the beans. I as well buy a package of Existent crumbled bacon (usually plant in the salad dressing alley) and mix with everything else. The best baked beans always!!!!
05/25/2011
Simple and tasty. I added some chopped dark-green pepper every bit well.
12/12/2002
Easy to make and a Large hitting at the office, backyard cookouts, and groups of all ages. My picky 11 twelvemonth one-time asked for triple servings!!
02/x/2003
I adore this recipe. On a cold winter dark null beats a plate of bubbling hot baked beans and a side of corn bread. The leftovers are great for luncheon the next twenty-four hours, also. I've never had a complaint about this dish.
06/27/2005
Wonderful gustation. I used Bush Country mode beans and so I cut back on the brown sugar past nearly half. I chopped upwards virtually 8-10 slices of bacon, sauted information technology with the onion, stirred role of it into the beans and sprinkled the rest on top. This was a really fast dish to make. I didn't add whatever salt and pepper as information technology didn't need it.
09/03/2009
I must say they are much better than the tin can!
03/12/2003
Really, really proficient. BUT - add together another can of beans. Two is just as well scanty.
07/05/2011
I used an unabridged pack of bacon that I pre-cooked and crumbled, and took this to my M-girl's 2nd birthday party, and I was told this was the best broiled beans they ever ate by 3 people!
09/08/2009
A niggling runny then next time I won't add every bit much ketchup. Besides, I recommend cutting each piece of bacon into 3 pieces so information technology makes serving much easier.
07/04/2011
Excellent
05/xxx/2011
This is a solid picnic recipe. I made this for a cookout and it was very good. Like other's I cut the suger in half; but, otherwise I followed the recipe and it was great. This will be my got to recipe for baked beans now.
05/02/2010
Great Beans! As the Author states, conform to personal taste. We use 1/2 the amount of brown sugar, minor corporeality of Sweet Babe Rays instead of ketchup and crumble the bacon on top. Perfect for BBQ or picnic. Thanks for sharing!
01/23/2003
First-class! I wasn't a big baked beans fan, just now I am.
06/28/2011
This recipe is really good when you add ground beef. I too used real bacon salad topping in it and cooked it on the stove top to make the cooking fourth dimension shorter. My family liked it and hope to run across it again.
09/23/2011
This is delicious. I was in a hurry so I cooked it in the microwave thinking it wouldn't thicken. I microwaved the onion for one minute before calculation to the dish. I as well microwaved the salary between newspaper towels for two minutes until crisp, and then broke information technology in pieces, placed it on top of the dish, and microwaved, covered, on high power for 5 min. I stirred information technology, and put in back, covered for 5 more minutes. I repeated this twice uncovered, for three minutes each stirring each time and it got thick and very hot. I allow information technology sit a little to cool while serving dinner and they tasted nifty. I know they would be amend cooked in the oven, but I was very impressed with these beans. My husband went back and ate all the beans that were left in the dish! Not bad for under twenty min!
06/04/2010
Very good! I chopped the bacon and mixed it in to the beans before I baked information technology.
09/05/2007
Married man commented straight away on how great these beans tasted, I did omit the carbohydrate....
07/03/2008
Super easy and expert. Even easier using dried chopped onions. Broiled beans are improve made with dried onions...I don't know why. Cracking recipe...Thanks!
01/03/2012
Really yummy!! Followed the recipe exactly with the exception that I omitted the bacon and added a bundle of beef hot dogs. Wow!! Added a tossed salad and enjoyed a bang-up, elementary dinner!
04/14/2012
Very yummy recipe! Nosotros didn't have whatever salary handy and so instead nosotros added leftover spiral cut ham. We will be saving this recipe to reference again!
04/x/2009
Very skilful! Sticky, sweet, rich, yummmy. I followed as written, except no salary. I make these all the time. Beloved information technology.
05/16/2011
Nil special, really.
07/23/2011
These are the all-time broiled beans I accept ever had. It is now my dish - ever - for family cookouts
04/21/2003
I made these beans for 12 and let me tell y'all they were great. I mixed all the ingredients in a basin showtime and so added it to the beans. I did not add it all though crusade it looked similar they would have been to runny. They were swell and we are having some leftovers for dinner this night. They have definetly thickened over dark and I can't wait to swallow them. Thanks for a great recipe.
03/18/2001
This was the second best baked beans recipe ever! The best would be my female parent'due south, but that takes all day to make, so I only brand information technology on special occasions. This will be my master recipe from at present on. So piece of cake to make, had all the ingredients on paw, and wonderful taste. I think the vinegar had a lot to practice with the taste, because there was a hint of tartness, which I loved. My son won't impact the beans, but my four twelvemonth old and two yr quondam daughters loved information technology!
04/08/2012
These are only succulent and so easy to brand! I finish cooking them with v minutes under the broiler. This crisps up the salary and caramelizes the sauce. Yum!
05/xxx/2000
Followed the recipe to a T. My guests loved it! I asked them if they thought it was As well SWEET, they said no! Told me to concur on to this recipe. These Baked Beans out did the other side dishes I served. Guests went back for seconds. Oh, well...gauge Everyone has dissimilar taste on sweet. Cheers Jackie : )
10/23/2002
These are the best I've e'er fabricated. Everyone loved them. I didn't change a thing.
03/05/2003
Fabulous! My hubby is from NH and they love their broiled beans in New England. I have made them many times in my bean pot from scratch, only when he said he was in the mood for baked beans, I started searching for a quick replacement. Constitute this recipe and it was a hitting! I made it in a big Pyrex pan and cut up a pound of good hotdogs and let it bake in the oven. I am trying this recipe out once again tonight, but this fourth dimension in the crockpot. I concord that if you use baked beans in the can to cutting dorsum on the brown carbohydrate, merely other than that, this is a great recipe.
07/09/2003
I make this recipe practically twice a month during the summertime. I've received so many compliments on it. However, I by and large go far without the vinegar and it turns out wonderful nonetheless!
eleven/11/2009
Brought to a melt out and everyone loved them.
10/22/2011
I have made this several times, its very good, very easy, and I usually have everything on hand!
